Patriots Survive Totem’s Late Rally 4/29/15
|
Patriots bounce back against
|
Liberty moved their record to 11-4 with a nail biting win over the Sammamish Totems, 6-5. After Liberty fought back from an early deficit to take a four run lead in the top of the 7th, Sammamish counter punched with a three run homer to pull within one. The Totems then advanced the tying run to third and winning run to second before Sydney Hopper struck out the final two batters to end the game. Offensive leaders included Maddy O’Connor and Sydney Hopper with two hits each. Kendall Kauzlarich, Hannah McMullin, Sarah Abraham, Carina Morris and Bella Oliver also provided base hits to help spark the Patriot’s late inning surge.
|
Liberty regained their winning ways and put the Juanita series behind them in emphatic fashion against Mercer Island, 9-0. Liberty jumped on the Islanders early for four runs in the first inning. They never looked back from there behind Sydney Hopper’s ten strikeout, one hit performance from the circle. Offensive highlights were provided by Kendall Kauzlarich, Sydney, and Maddie O’Connor, who each had 2 RBIs to lead the Patriot attack. Hannah McMullin, Bella Oliver and Carina Morris also each checked in with hits for the Patriots.

Patriots Lose a Pair to Juanita 4/17/15 and 4/20/15
The Patriots lost in heartbreaking fashion to the Rebels 5-4 on Friday afternoon. The Patriots were poised to take the lead in the 7th inning when they loaded the bases against unusually shaky Juanita pitching. Hannah McMullin capped an excellent at bat with a two out line drive to right field. The Patriots good fortune ended there when the ball struck a base runner to end the game. Offensive highlights included multi-hit games by Hannah, Sarah Abraham and Madi Jones. The defense committed a few errors early, then settled in and played a solid game through the late innings.
The Patriots came out flat in the second game of the series and dropped their second in a row to the Juanita Rebels 11-3 on Monday. The Rebels rode a potent offensive line-up, with multi-hit games from several players at the top of their order, as well as a slew of Patriot errors, to take control in the middle innings. After taking a 3-2 lead after 2 innings, the Patriots never sustained any offense in the game, scattering only 6 hits against the Rebels pitcher.

Patriots Take Two from Bellevue 4/15/15 and 4/16/15
Liberty ran their record to 9-2 on the year with two very close victories over Bellevue. After winning a tight game on Wednesday, 2-1, the Patriots rallied from behind to take the second game on Thursday, 4-3. Offense stars for the two game set included Madi Jones, who was 4-6 at the plate, and Bella Oliver, who checked in with two hits in the second game, including a 6th inning single and run scored after Madi Jones’ double. Maddy O’Connor provided a clutch, two-out RBI single in the bottom of the 7th to pull the Patriots even at 3-3. Jayme Shaw then used her speed to produce a run with a great at bat; ultimately putting the ball in play to the shortstop and hustling down the line to force a throwing error, which allowed Maddy to score the winning run. After a bit of a struggle in game 1 and the early part of game 2, the Patriot’s defense showed what they are capable of, shutting down the Bellevue offense for the final 4 innings. The defensive effort was highlighted by a great performance at third by Carina Morris, who continued her stellar play at the hot corner with 5 assists and 4 put-outs in her nine chances in the field over the two game set. Sydney Hopper was again solid in the circle, yielding 2 earned runs in 14 innings, with 15 strikeouts and 1 walk.
Patriots Drop a Pair to Lake Washington 4/6/15 and 4/7/15
The Patriots began their spring break with a pair of losses to a formidable Kangs squad, 5-0 and 5-1. The Patriot bats couldn’t muster much offense, with the only highlight provided by Kendall Kauzlarich’s solo homer in the second game. Kendall also had the only other hits off the LW pitcher in the two game set. Liberty will get another shot at the Kangs later in the year and will look to regain their winning form coming out of the break against Bellevue and Juanita in the coming week.
Liberty Wins a Tight One 4/3/15
|
The Patriots won a close contest 7-4 against the Interlake Saints on a sunny, cool and breezy day in Bellevue. Liberty got multi-hit games from Hannah McMullin, Sydney Hopper, Kendall Kauzlarich and Madi Jones, and kept the pressure on Interlake with great patience at the plate, drawing 8 walks on the day. Hannah and Kendall provided the offensive fireworks with triples in the 5th and 6th innings. Jayme Shaw added an RBI single in the 6th.
The defense overcame numerous miscues with a number of great catches in the outfield, highlighted by the defensive play of the year thus far: With Liberty nursing a one run lead, Kendall caught a screaming line drive in right field as she crashed into the fence. The play was a game changer with two on and two out. Liberty enters Spring Break with a perfect 7-0 record. Way to go Patriots. |
Liberty Defeats the Islanders 15-4 4/2/15
|
Liberty finally got to play their repeatedly rained out game against Mercer Island on an unexpectedly beautiful day. Liberty’s offense came to play early. They posted an eight-run first inning, then added on throughout the game to earn a 15-4 victory in five innings. The Patriots offensive adjustments proved effective as seven different players recorded multi-hit games to lead a season-high seventeen hit attack against a pitcher they had trouble solving last week.
Hannah McMullin continued to swing a hot bat for the Patriots with her second home run in as many days; this one of the inside the park variety. Sydney Hopper added two triples among her three hits on the day. The Patriots defense carried the momentum from the offensive outburst out to the field, earning their first error-free game of the season. The defensive effort was highlighted by a gutsy relief appearance by Madi Jones in the circle. Madi battled through some early jitters in the fourth inning to hold the Islanders scoreless in the fifth inning to close out the game. |
Patriots Drop the Saints 10-1 4/1/15
On a cool day that threatened rain, the Patriots cruised to a 10-1 victory over the Interlake Saints Wednesday afternoon.
The Patriots showed good patience at the plate, totaling ten hits and five walks on the day to keep constant pressure on the Saints defense. Offensive leaders on the day included Hannah McMullin, Sydney Hopper and Kendall Kauzlarich, who each had multi-hit games. Carina Morris, Bella Oliver and Sarah Abraham also checked in with hits. Hannah’s 3 for 3 day at the plate was punctuated by a line drive home run over the centerfield fence in the Patriot’s seven-run third inning. The Patriots defensive effort was highlighted by another solid outing from the circle from Sydney Hopper, who struck out nine, walked none and yielded no earned runs. |

Patriots Defeat Totems 13-3 3/30/15
The Patriots ran their record to 4-0 on the young season by defeating Sammamish 13-3 in six innings after yielding a 3-0 lead to the Totems to start the game. The Patriots got their offense going in the second inning and tied the score at three with some very effective bunting and a couple of Totem errors. The Patriots added on three more in the fourth behind a Hannah McMullin triple. Bella Oliver, Jamie Shaw and Sarah Abraham all rattled the Totems with sacrifice or base-hit bunts in front of Hannah’s big hit.
Hannah also had two other hits to pace the Patriots twelve hit attack. The Patriots added 6 more runs in the 5th inning, amazingly all after two outs. The Patriots got to the Totems pitcher for 5 hits in the inning including doubles by Madi Jones and Bella Oliver. After the Patriots retired the Totems in order to start the sixth, Oliver and Jamie Shaw closed the Totems out with a single by Oliver, who advanced from first to third on Shaw’s bunt single, then scored on a throwing error by the Totems. The Patriot defense was solid again. The effort was led by Carina Morris, who played another strong game at third, and Maddy O’Connor, who held the Totems running game in check from behind the plate, called a great game, and limited the damage by the Totems in the early innings. After struggling to find their rhythm in the first and second innings, the Patriots slammed the door on the Totems, allowing only one hit and no runs over the final 4 innings. |

Patriots Down Sammamish 10-3 3/27/15
The Patriots got their bats going against the Sammamish Totems on Friday, pounding out 10 hits on their way to a 10-3 victory on another nice day for softball. The offense was led by Hannah McMullin and Kendall Kauzlarich. Hannah went 2 for 5 at the plate. She tripled and scored in the second inning and later drove in a run with a single in the third. Kendall continued her hot hitting to start the year, going 2 for 3 with a walk and a run scored. Madi Jones, Sydney Hopper, Maddy O’Connor, Carina Morris, Bella Oliver and Lexi Serna all chipped in with hits as well.
The Patriots defense was solid, committing only one error and never allowing the Totems to threaten after the Patriots built a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd. The Patriots now stand at 3-0 for the season.

Patriots Win Home Opener Under Sunny Skies 3/26/15
After three days of rainouts, Liberty played their home opener on a beautiful sunny day that saw temperatures reach the 70s. The old adage that pitching and defense win ball games certainly proved true on Thursday afternoon. In the fourth, Maddy O’Connor caught the leadoff runner in an attempted steal at second. That was followed by a great play by Kendall Kauzlarich, who threw out a runner attempting to advance to second on a missed fly ball. Madi Jones made a spectacular snag of a line drive to end the fifth inning. In the sixth, Kendall threw out a runner trying to go from 1st to 3rd on a ground ball that made it through the infield. The game ended on a nice catch by Kendall in right with the sun directly in her eyes. Sydney Hopper led the Patriots from the circle. She had 10 strikeouts and allowed two earned runs, five hits, and two walks over seven innings. The Patriots struggled to get their offense going against the Islanders. The Patriots managed only five hits on the day, but they proved timely. A two run single by Jamie Shaw in the bottom of the sixth tied the game at two. The Patriots then took the lead on a wild pitch, which brought home Bella Oliver. The Patriots then closed out the Islanders in the top of the 7th to earn the victory. |
Patriots take out Orting with help from Kendall Kauzlarich, 8-4 3/18/15
Kendall Kauzlarich had two extra base hits, sparking the Patriots to an 8-4 victory in seven innings over Orting on Wednesday at Orting High School. She tripled in the fourth inning and doubled in the seventh inning. Sydney Hopper kept contact to a minimum, striking out nine Orting batters. Hopper allowed two earned runs on three hits and no walks over seven innings. Hopper, Carina Morris, and Kauzlarich helped lead the Patriots. They combined for seven hits and four RBIs. The Patriots pushed two runs across in the fourth inning to start the scoring. The Patriots scored on an RBI triple by Kauzlarich and an error. Orting answered the Patriots' top inning with two runs of its own in the fourth. The game was never in doubt after the fifth, as the Patriots scored two runs on a two-run single by Maddy O'Connor. The Patriots brought home two runs in the sixth inning, and matched that run total in the seventh. In the sixth, the Patriots scored on a two-run single by Hanna McMullin, scoring Morris and Jayme Shaw. The Patriots built upon their lead with two runs in the seventh. Kauzlarich's double got things going, scoring Hopper. That was followed up by Morris' single, bringing home Kauzlarich. "Powered by Narrative Science and GameChanger Media. Copyright 2015. Patriots Succumb to Wildcats 05/02/13
The Patriots let one slip away against the Wildcats on a breezy day at Mt Si. After a couple of singles provided the base runners, the Wildcats hammered back to back home runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to break open a 1-1 tie. The Patriots briefly mustered a rally with a couple of two-out base runners, but then went quietly in the 7th to close out a 7-1 Mt. Si victory. The offense struggled all day against the Mt. Si pitcher, collecting just four hits off the bats of Liza Van Camp, Madi Jones, Miranda Bukantz and Hannah McMullin. The Patriots were a bit shaky on the defensive side of the field throughout, but battled through it to keep the game close until the fateful 6th inning. Friday afternoon the Patriots get a second shot at Lake Washington when they finish out the 6th and 7th innings of the earlier contest that was called for rain.
Patriots Celebrate Senior Night with a W. 04/30/13
The Patriots continued their winning ways and collected a little redemption in defeating Bellevue 8-2 on a beautiful day to recognize our outgoing Seniors; Olivia Post, Joshilynn Wolff, Allie Wood and Miranda Bukantz. The Patriot attack was led by a very productive top of the line-up. Liza VanCamp went for 4-4 and scored three times in the leadoff slot while Madi Jones went 2-4 and scored twice from the two slot. Joshilynn Wolff went 1-2 with two walks and also scored a run from the three slot. Hannah McMullin and Allie Wood also contributed hits to Liberty's offensive highlights. The defense continued its run of very good games, making a number of nice plays and committing just one error in support of Sydney Hopper's complete game, which yielded just one earned run on four hits, with nine strikeouts and no walks. The Patriots finish the regular season schedule at Mt. Si on Thursday at 4:30, then on Friday are scheduled to complete the earlier tie game at Lake Washington that was called off by the umpires in the middle of the sixth inning.
Patriots Make it Three in a Row Against Islanders 04/25/13The Patriots continued their late season surge with a 7-4 victory over Mercer Island on yet another warm and sunny day. Liberty jumped on the Islanders early and cruised to a 7-0 lead before a couple of miscues and some timely hits gave the Islanders hope in the middle innings. The Patriots tightened things down in the last couple of frames and came away with their third victory in a row to end this long week of softball. Liza VanCamp led the offensive charge with 3 hits from the leadoff spot. Joshilynn Wolff also had a multi-hit game, checking in with two. The offense was well balanced through the line-up, with every Patriot reaching base at least once. The defensive effort was highlighted by Sydney Hopper’s third complete game in as many days. She gave up two earned runs while striking out four and issuing just one intentional walk. The Patriots will try to keep the good times rolling when they host Bellevue on Tuesday at 4:30.

Liberty Takes Win Against Mount Si 04/24/13
The Patriots took a while to get their offense cranked up, but did so when it counted to pull out a 4-3 victory over Mount Si on another beautiful day at Liberty. The Patriots overcame a three run deficit in the 6th with three runs of their own when Liza VanCamp drew the first walk of the day, which was ultimately followed by four straight two out singles from Miranda Bukantz, Sydney Hopper, Olivia Kutzke and Maddy O’Connor. The Patriots then escaped a bases loaded jam in the top of the 7th, overcoming a tough call that went against them at third by inducing a harmless fly ball to right that Madi Jones put away to end the inning. That set the stage for some 7th inning magic brought on by stellar offensive execution. Allie Wood worked a lead-off walk and was sacrificed to second by Liza VanCamp. After the Wildcat pitcher snagged a line drive for the second out, Joshilynn Wolff stepped to the plate and put together an outstanding at bat, ending it, and the game, with a bullet double to right center field that easily drove home Allie with the winning run. The Patriots also played steady defense throughout the game in support of Sydney Hopper, who gave up just one earned run in 7 strong innings of work in the circle. The Patriots wrap up a long week at Mercer Island on Thursday at 4:30.
A Long-Awaited Win For the Patriots 04/23/13The Patriots got off to a shaky start against the Totems; trailing 4-3 after two innings. From there on, they rode a potent and patient offense, as well as solid pitching and defense, to a 12-4 victory on a beautiful afternoon at Sammamish. Offensive highlights were plentiful, led by Olivia Kutzke, who had 4 hits on the day. Ashley Knox, Joshilynn Wolff, Miranda Bukantz, Sydney Hopper and Madi Jones each had two hits to key a sixteen hit Patriot attack. Joshilynn provided the offensive fireworks early in the game with a screaming line drive over the left field fence to plate Liza VanCamp and get the Patriot offense started. The defense was sound behind a complete game in the circle from Sydney Hopper, who struck out four, walked two and yielded only two earned runs. The Patriots make up their earlier rain-out against Mount Si at home on Wednesday at 4:30.
|
Patriots Fall to Wolverines 04/22/13The Patriots suffered a 3-2 setback at Bellevue in spite of tallying twice as many hits as the Wolverines, who proved the old adage; “it’s not how many you get, but when you get ‘em”. Bellevue managed to parlay a 3 run 4th inning into the victory, overcoming a solid pitching performance from the Liberty pitching tandem of Joshilynn Wolff and Sydney Hopper, who together yielded only three hits in the game. Offensive highlights were hard to come by, with the exception of Maddy O’Connor, who went 3 for 3, and Joshilynn, who went 2 for 3. Miranda Bukantz also added a hit for the Patriots. The Patriots continue this four game week when they travel to Sammamish on Tuesday at 4:30.
|
Patriots Comeback is Denied 04/18/13Under steady rain, the Patriots lost to league leading Lake Washington in a bizarre fashion when, with the score tied 9-9 in the top of the 6th inning, the umpires halted the game due to field conditions. The Patriots had already plated 7 runs in the inning and had the bases loaded with one out against a besieged Kangs pitching staff when the game was called. By rule, the score reverts to the prior inning, with the Patriots trailing 9-2. In spite of the unjust ending, the Patriots have much to be proud of as they fought back from a big deficit and put themselves in a position to seize a hard earned victory. Liza VanCamp and Joshilynn Wolf were both 3 for 3 at the plate. Olivia Kutzke added 2 hits of her own and Sydney Hopper, Miranda Bukantz and Ashley Knox all checked in with hits as well. The Patriots are at Bellevue on Friday at 4:30, if only the weather will give us a break.
|
Rebels Defeat Patriots 04/16/13The Patriots suffered another defeat at the hands of a tough Juanita team. The game was tight early, but the Rebel’s offensive and defensive consistency allowed them to pull away in the middle and late innings to earn a 8-2 victory over Liberty. The Patriots offense had its chances, but couldn’t string together hits when they needed to. Miranda Bukantz was 3 for 3 at the plate, while Liza Van Camp was 2 for 4. Olivia Kutzke, Ashley Knox and Maddy O’Connor all added hits as well. The Patriots next take on Lake Washington on Thursday at 4:00 at Crestwoods Park Ballfields in Kirkland.
|
Patriots Lose in Extra Innings to Islanders 04/01/13The Patriots suffered another tough loss after yielding a late lead to a determined Islander squad. The Patriots bats continued to struggle, managing just 6 hits against an efficient Mercer island pitcher. Miranda Bukantz had the lone multi-hit game with two. She was joined by Joshilynn Wolff, Ashley Knox, Jenny Walker and Maddy O’Connor, each of whom also had hits. In spite of the challenges on both sides of the ball throughout the game, the Patriots hung in there, battled, and traded the lead in the 6th and 7th innings until a 5 run Mercer Island outburst in the 9th inning doomed their chances. The Patriots next travel to face Bellevue at 4:30 on Thursday.
|
Patriots Fall Short Against Lake WA 03/26/13The Patriot's woes continued against league leading Lake Washington on a sunny and somewhat warm afternoon at Liberty. The Kangs jumped on the Patriots with four runs in the first inning and never looked back in spite of the Patriot's efforts to chip away at the lead. LW ultimately prevailed 7-5. Joshilynn Wolff had another strong performance in the circle in relief. The Patriot bats were not as hot as in recent games but nonetheless provided several big highlights, including Miranda Bukantz's towering shot to center field for the Patriot's third home run in as many games. Miranda had two other hits and was joined by Joshilynn with three hits and Liza Van Camp with two. The Patriots take on Sammamish at Liberty on Thursday at 4:30.
|
Liberty Lets One Slip Away 03/25/13The Patriots lost another nail-biter on a bright and relatively warm day at Juanita. As has generally been the case in the Patriot’s games this year, Liberty jumped out to an early lead and repeatedly answered the Rebel’s challenges until a fateful flurry of Rebel hits sealed the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Patriots played a solid defensive game in the field, but the highlights were once again concentrated on the offense. Eight different Patriots had hits, led by Allie Wood with three, and Sydney Hopper, Miranda Bukantz and Maddy O’Connor, who each had two. Joshilynn Wolff made it two games in a row with a Patriot homerun, hitting a towering two-run shot into the parking lot in left field to pad the Patriot lead in the fifth inning. The Patriots will try to break through against Lake Washington this afternoon at Liberty at 4:30.

Patriots Can't Hold Lead Against Selah 03/23/13
The Patriots took on Selah at UW on a bright and sunny but cool day. The contest was close, with Liberty holding a 4-2 advantage after four innings. Selah's bats broke through for four runs in the bottom of the fifth however, and the Vikings relief pitching held the Patriots at bay for a the rest of the way, allowing Selah to claim a 7-4 victory. The Patriots continued their strong showing on offense, with six different players contributing hits. Joshilynn Wolff and Olivia Kutzke led the lineup with two hits each. The offensive highlight of the game was Olivia's first hit, a beautiful drive that cleared the left center field fence in a big hurry. The Patriot defense was solid throughout, turning in the first error-free game of the season. The Patriots make-up last week's rainout at Juanita on Monday at 4:30. Thanks to our alumni mom Kay Blohowiak for all of the wonderful photos.

Battle of The Bats at Inglemoor 03/20/13The Patriots suffered a heartbreaking 18-17 loss to Inglemoor on a cold and blustery day. The team repeatedly fought back from early deficits to build a couple of late leads, but was ultimately unable to hold on. There were many positives to take away from the game, led by Joshilynn Wolff’s performance in the circle. Joshilynn put on an uncommon display of skill, tenacity, endurance and mental toughness and gave her team every opportunity to win. On the offensive side, the Patriots once again showed they are formidable with the bats, led by Ashley Knox with four hits and Allie Wood, Miranda Bukantz and Olivia Kutzke, who each had three. In all, the Patriots pounded out twenty two hits against a quality pitcher, with every player in the line-up reaching base at least twice. The Patriots end this three consecutive game stretch with a visit to Juanita this afternoon at 4:30, then travel to UW to take on Selah on Saturday at 11:00.

Liberty Fastpitch Completes Season with Fine Showing at State Tourney 5/26/12
In their first state tourney appearance in 4 years, the Patriots played three gritty games to complete their season turn-around and confirm that Liberty softball is back on top. Liberty made it into the 2nd consolation round to exit the tournament tied for 9th place. The girls lost an exciting opener to state finalist and top-ten ranked Everett by a score of 5-1, then came back to eliminate Shadle Park (Spokane) with some big hitting and stellar defense to set up their final match with top-ten ranked Camas. Liberty jumped on Camas early and lead early in the game with more big bats, aggressive base running, and top-notch defense before falling to injuries, fatigue, umpires, and Camas relief pitching. The Patriots were well prepared and competitive in all three matches, and were never out of their league - a fine testament to the team that the 2012 season created.
Liberty Punches Its Ticket to State 5/16/12
Miranda Bukantz's diving catch to clinch a victory
Liberty dispatched Chief Sealth in the first round of Sea-King District play, and then shredded the Holy Names pitching to advance to the Sea-King semi-finals on May 17. By reaching the semi-finals, Liberty has assured themselves a bid to the 2012 State 3A Fastpitch Tournament.
|
|
