At the end of a tournament, the winners are awarded, and get to keep the Tournament Draw Sheets from both both the Singles and Doubles Competitions. At the end of Day 2, BOTH  Draw Sheets are in the possession of Liberty High School!

In Singles play on Day 2 Luciana Sobrino played well in defeating her opponent 6-1, 7-5.

In Doubles play, LHS’s #1 Team of Sienna Rice and Jyotsna Kuramkote defeated Liberty’s #2 Doubles Team of Cheyenne Rice & Catherine La by the score of 6-1, 6-4 to win the Doubles Championship. Cheyenne and Catherine, by finishing in 2nd place still qualify for next week’s Districts Tournament in Bellingham.

The 3rd LHS Doubles Team of Jenny Dang & Sarah Stuck lost a three-set match in their effort to be the third LHS Doubles Team to qualify for Districts. Both Jenny and Sarah played very well throughout the Tournament and came up just short on Tuesday.

An exciting and overall, a successful end to the first phase of post season play. Great job Lady Patriots!
The LHS Girls Tennis Team was defeated by Mercer Island on Thursday by the score of 2-5. Normally, a loss reflects a multitude of errors or ineffective play. Thursday’s M. I. Match had neither.

In fact, the LHS Girls demonstrated significant progress and improved play although not indicated by the final score.
Luciana Sobrino continued her winning ways with a solid 6-3, 6-0 win in #1 Singles.
The #1 LHS Doubles Team of Sienna Rice & Grace Lee also kept their excellent record in tact with a 3-6, 6-3, 10-8 win.
All LHS players competed well against the League’s perennial powerhouse.

  sub-Districts                 5/8/17

After Saturday’s weather caused postponement of the sub-District until Monday, apparently the delay was to the liking of the LHS Girls Tournament Team.

In Singles play action, Liberty’s Luciana Sobrino, who as top seed in the Tournament received a first round bye – began a very successful day winning her 2nd round match by the score of 6-3, 6-2. In the 3rd Round, Luciana defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-0 and completed the day with a 6-0, 6-1 win to gain entry into the Tournament finals to be played on Tuesday. Luciana, by her winning record is already assured a place in the District Tournament in Bellingham next week.

In Doubles action, the Tournament’s #1 Seed is also from Liberty HS. Sienna Rice and Jyotsna Kuramkote received a first round bye as the top seed and went on to a very successful day winning their second round match by the score of 6-0, 6-2; and then their third round match 6-0, 6-0. The Rice-Kuramkote pair earned the right to play at Districts next week with their fine performance.

Liberty’s #2 Doubles Team of Cheyenne Rice and Catherine La also had a very successful day as the 2nd seed in the Doubles Draw. Cheyenne and Catherine won their first round match 6-0, 6-0. Then they went on to win their next 2 matches 6-3, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-3 and in doing so – won a berth in next week’s Districts.

The LHS #3 Doubles Team of Jenny Dang and Sarah Stucky played very well with their only loss coming at the hands of Liberty’s #2 Doubles Team! Jenny and Sarah won their first round match 6-4, 6-2 and then went on to win again by the score of 6-4, 6-2. It was unfortunate that both LHS Doubles Teams had to square-off when both Doubles Teams were playing so well. Although Jenny and Sarah lost their third round match to Cheyenne and Catherine – the good news is Jenny and Sarah move the consolation side of the bracket and with two wins, could join their LHS Doubles teammates as the 3rd Doubles Team to earn a spot at next week’s Districts.

An exciting day for LHS Tennis!
